To make the most of it, escape the harshness of the European winter and head east.
Vietnam
If you’re thinking kitesurfing, Vietnam immediately comes to mind as the top destination for wave riding. The large sandy beaches and favourable winds make it a must.
Mui Ne
The kite beach of Mui Ne stretches for several kilometres along the coast. There are plenty of kite schools, both for lessons and equipment rental. As for the wind, it blows crosswise along the coast, so the sea is quite rough and ideal for fun.
Phan Rang
This is the spot that is dethroning Mui Ne in recent years. In addition, Mui Ne is experiencing erosion which is starting to impact on the quality of the kite sessions. At Phan Rang, the wind is reliable and very strong. Phan Rang is a flat water lagoon with countless reef breaks. So it’s only logical that the kite community likes to hang out here.
Sri Lanka
Another popular destination for kiteboarders is Sri Lanka and for good reason. Two extraordinary spots are waiting for you there.
Kalpitiya
This area, still not very touristy, offers an ideal panorama with natural and preserved landscapes. Many of the spots have not yet been visited. If you don’t know where to start, go to the huge Puttalam lagoon with its clear waters and ever present wind.
Mannar
This sandy peninsula overlooks the Gulf of Mannar and a lagoon. In winter, the wind blows on the sea side and on the lagoon in summer. This spot is accessible all year round. If you are a beginner, the shallow lagoon is a very good place to take off. The more experienced can also find pleasure here when the wind reaches 20 knots.
Thailand
The best time to kite in Thailand is from mid-December to the end of April or from July to September. This way, you can take advantage of the most favourable winds.
Koh Phangan
The shallow lagoon at Baan tai beach is the ideal place for beginners and even experts with an average wind speed of 20 knots. The water temperature is 32 degrees. Koh Phangan is therefore one of the most popular spots in the country. Many kite courses are organised there. To make the most of your stay, avoid the monsoon season when conditions are more difficult, especially if you are a beginner.
Pak Nam Pran
Whatever your level, from novice to professional, Pak Nam Pran beach awaits you for unforgettable kite sessions in one of the most beautiful spots in the country. The beach is 7 km long. The water and wind conditions change with the seasons. If you are a beginner, we recommend the period from February to June. The water is calm and the wind reliable enough for learning.
For the experienced, they will find their happiness from October to January. The water is rough and the wind can reach 30 knots. The monsoon season is also a good time, when the wind is unpredictable and offshore.
The Philippines
Voted most beautiful beach in the world in 2012, Boracay Island is home to an absolutely fantastic spot for its nature, but also for the wind and ride conditions it offers. One part of the island is windy, the other is calmer. The main spot is located on Bulabog beach. It is a lagoon protected by a coral reef of more than 2 km, totally reserved for kitesurfing.
Indonesia
Let’s go to Indonesia, on the island of Sulawesi. The famous kite spot of Jeneponto is a windy area, ideal for experienced riders. The wind blows every day between 15 and 35 knots.
